Muddy Waters Birthday celebration at Teddy's

Come out to Teddy's Juke Joint this Saturday for a celebration of legendary blues crooner Muddy Waters. Great local acts like Dixie Rose, Richard Stiles, Selqyn Cooper, The Circuitbreakers, Henry Gray and many more will jam out on Teddy's front lawn in honor of the great man's birthday. Enjoy the great weather and take in some terrific music while you're at it. Grounds open at 12 p.m., shows start at 2 p.m.

Red Sparrowes flock to Spanish Moon

Trippy experimental rock group Red Sparrowes will land at the Spanish Moon bringing their own spin on psychedelic instrumentals, fueled by extensive use of a pedal steel guitar. Take a trip through their amazing soundscapes this Monday. Opening is the heavy metal Bostonian group Doomriders. 9 p.m.

Local music weekend at the Varsity

Local rockers Barisal Guns will bring the house down at the Varsity Theatre Thursday night, fresh from their awesome performance at this year's South By Southwest Festival in Austin. With their hard and heavy '70s sound, you'll be transported back to when rock first found its edge. Opening will be energetic funk-pop group The Revivalists, and the rocking Mandevillains known as the State Street Survivors. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8.

Cajun stomp at Chelsea's

It's a rock-stomping Cajun time at Chelsea's Café this Saturday, when Feufollet and Cedric Watson take the stage. With their modernist interpretations of classic Zydeco and Creole riffs, this band of musicians is taking Louisiana music into the future. You won't believe your ears. Show starts at 10 p.m.

Southern acts headline at Red Star

Five bands from Texas and Louisiana will join together for a spectacular show at the Red Star Bar this Friday. Prog-rockers They Mean Us, indie darlings Words in Windows, ambient music-makers The Sound of Wales, and acoustic virtuoso Michael Perkins (a.k.a. Blinded By Bears) will partner with Baton Rouge's own England in 1819 for a night of fresh indie music. Show starts at 8 p.m.
