Downtown Arts Market this Saturday Image It's the first Saturday of the month, and that means one thing for downtown shoppers: the Baton Rouge Arts Market. With over 70 artists from all over the south, displaying wares from pottery to paintings, glassworks to quilts, you're sure to spot something that your heart desires. The market takes place next door to the Red Stick Market, but if fickle fall weather strikes, it will be indoors in the Galvez Parking Garage at 500 Main St. 8 a.m. to noon. Free to the public.

Local artists get Stabbed in the Art

Friday, Stabbed in the Art holds their monthly one-night-only show at 1284 Perkins Rd. near the Garden District Animal Hospital. This salon-type loose-n-funky BYOB event features the usual suspects with tons of unusual new works. Party down with the artists from 6 to 10 p.m. Free to the public.

Baton Rouge Gallery September opening

This Sunday, the Baton Rouge Gallery opens its September exhibit, featuring the work of BRG members Leanne McClurg Cambric, Scott Finch, Kathryn Hunter and Michaelene Walsh. Ceramic artists Cambric will display her naturistic earthenware pottery and hand-built porcelain alongside Walsh's carefully-sculpted birds and ice cream cones. Painter Finch's larger-than-life paintings adorn the walls alongside Hunter's delicate letterpress and mixed-media work. On display through September 23. This Sunday, head out for the Baton Rouge Gallery's Sundays@4 event, as Cambric and Finch discuss their work as part of the Gallery's ARTiculate program. Free to the public.

Robert Hausey's work at Glassell Gallery this month

LSU's Glassell Gallery will debut its new exhibition, Robert Hausey: A Life's Work, this Saturday. Hausey, affectionately known as "Bobby" to friends, relatives and students, was a beloved Professor of Art at LSU from 1977 until his death in October of last year. His art covers a wide range of subjects, from still-lifes to intimate, almost photo-realistic portraits. A celebratory reception will be held on Saturday, September 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Glassell Gallery is free and open to the public. The show runs through October 16.
