Is a disturbed man’s walk on a Manhattan high-rise ledge a legitimate suicide attempt or a ruse as part of a multi-million-dollar diamond heist? That is the question Elizabeth Banks must find answers to this Friday in Man on a Ledge. Sam Worthington stars as an ex-con who puts himself on the outside of a building for all to see, while Banks’ psychologist is dispatched to talk him down. 'Grey' ghost

Liam Neeson has become a vengeful man of late. The English movie star follows payback thrillers Taken, Unknown and The Other Man with the adventure thriller The Grey this Friday. When disaster strikes an oil drilling team in the wilds of Alaska, Neeson and his men must fight for survival, navigate a hostile winter and evade a pack of bloodthirsty wolves who see the men as invaders on their territory. Smokin’ Aces and The A-Team director Joe Carnahan is behind the camera, and Dermot Mulroney and Dallas Roberts co-star. Rated R.

'Steel' of a deal

Rock ’em Sock ’em robots were taken to the next level last year in the android boxing drama Real Steel, new this week on DVD. Set in the near future, Hugh Jackman plays a washed up boxer whose only shot at redemption is as a trainer... for a robot. In a seedy underworld where robots are geared up for ruthless competition, Jackman and the 11-year-old boy he is estranged from partner together to train a discarded machine they find in a scrap heap. Forgotten by all, this robot could be their shot at the title and a way for them to finally connect as father and son. Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie co-star. Rated PG-13.

Odds are '50/50'

When seemingly healthy 27-year-old Adam learns that he has a rare form of spinal cancer, he deals with the news in unexpected and often comedic ways in 50/50, a bold look at terminal illness and the importance of the people in our lives that is new on DVD this week. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars in this true-story based on the experiences of screenwriter Will Reiser, who wrote the film as a form of therapy during his own battle with cancer. Reiser's real-life friend Seth Rogen plays a toned-down version of himself who attempts to perk up his sick friend enough to use cancer as a way to score with women. Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard and Anjelica Huston co-star. Rated R.
