This month, Swine Palace will launch a two-week run of Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan’s adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice at the Shaver Theatre. Real-life married couples will bring their experiences to the roles of Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, and Lord and Lady Lucas. Sparks fly between the rich Mr. Darcy and the independent Elizabeth Bennett—but the titular pride and ingrained class prejudice keep them apart. First Wednesday at Baton Rouge Gallery

At 7 p.m. on February 1, Baton Rouge Gallery, a BREC facility, will host a “First Wednesday” Opening Reception to introduce the latest works by four of its artist members: Charles Barbier, Paul Dean, John Harlan Norris and Tom Richard. During the exhibition, which runs through Feb. 23, gallery visitors will be treated to Charles Barbier’s painterly exploration of deep space, Tom Richard’s playful look back at his own childhood toys, Paul Dean’s colorful experiments with 35 years of record collecting and John Harlan Norris’ use of portraiture as an examination of the roles people play. Downtown Arts Market this Saturday

The Baton Rouge Arts Market convenes this weekend for the first market of 2012. It’s a one-stop-shop for unique artistic items. With over 70 artists from all over the south, displaying wares from pottery to paintings, glassworks to quilts, you're sure to spot something that your heart desires. The market takes place next door to the Red Stick Market, but if this Saturday is anything but gorgeous, it will be indoors in the Galvez Parking Garage at 500 Main St. 8 a.m. to noon. Get 'Stabbed in the Art' this Friday

Friday, Stabbed in the Art parties at the monthly one-night-only show at 1284 Perkins Rd. near the Garden District Animal Hospital.
