The Office star John Krasinski makes family-friendly drama Big Miracle his first big screen, non-indie leading role this Friday. Staring as a reporter in a backwater Alaska town, Krasinski stumbles upon the story of the year when a family of whales is trapped in rapidly forming ice. After recruiting his Green Peace, animal-loving ex to help, the townspeople and the entire state get behind the effort to save the whales. Drew Barrymore co-stars as Krasinski's former flame to the rescue. While Krasinski and Barrymore seek assistance from the state's indignant governor, played by Stephen Root, they rediscover what they loved about each other. Ted Danson and Tim Blake Nelson co-star. Directed by The Office helmer Ken Kwapis. Rated PG.

Back in 'Black'

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is back fighting the forces of evil this Friday in the new ghostly thriller The Woman in Black. In a film based on the popular Susan Hill novel, Radcliffe stars as a young attorney who travels to a remote English township for a funeral but soon discovers the revenge-thirsty ghost of a a woman is terrorizing the locals. Part Gothic fairy tale, part Hitchcock horror, The Woman in Black co-stars Ciaran Hinds and Sophie Stuckey and is penned by X-Men: First Class scribe Jane Goldman. Rated PG-13.

Amazing 'Drive'

Ryan Gosling stars as a Hollywood stunt driver who gets in over his head with Los Angeles mobsters in the getaway thriller Drive. Directed by acclaimed Bronson honcho Nicholas Winding Refn and based on the crime novel by James Sallis, the film follows Gosling’s wheelman as he takes on an ill-advised gig as a getaway driver for a dangerous heist. When the plan goes horribly wrong, the mafia boss, played by Albert Brooks, puts a hit out on Gosling, and the young driver has to do more than peel out to save his skin and the young family he watches over. Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks and Carey Mulligan co-star. Rated R.

Think 'Big'

It's no harm, no fowl this week as bird watching gets competitive in The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel’s new comedy The Big Year, out now on DVD. Steve Martin and Jack Black star as bird watchers trying to beat the score of 737 rare birds spotted in one year by nefarious champion played by Owen Wilson. No one can be trusted as the trio buts heads, lies, cheats and steals to get ahead of each other as passion turns into obsession, and they travel the world looking for rare species and a little adventure. Based on the novel by Mark Obmascik. John Cleese and Kevin Pollack co-star. Rated PG-13.
