Louisiana songwriters return to their roots

Louisiana Crossroads presents an evening of Louisiana roots music with songwriter Zachary Richard, New Orleans pianist David Torkanowsky and guitarist Shane Theriot. Dash Rip Rock turns 25; final Live After Five concert

Can you believe Dash Rip Rock has been touring for 25 years? Band members have come and gone, including Fred LeBlanc of Cowboy Mouth, featured in the new issue of 225, out on stands now. Celebrate southern rock nostalgia with the boys from Baton Rouge starting at 7 p.m. Friday on the spacious courtyard at Happy's downtown. And don't forget Friday is the final spring concert for the Live After Five series. Enjoy music by teen band Solar Heat and classic rock enthusiasts Transit. 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Outlaw country legend Merle Haggard performs

He turned 21 in prison doing life without parole, no one could steer him right but Mama tried, Mama tried. The legendary outlaw Merle Haggard performs Friday at the Mari Showroom at the Paragon Casino in Marksville.  Tickets are $45 via ticketmaster.com or at the Cypress Gifts inside the casino. Show starts at 9 p.m. While you're at the gift shop, be sure to pick up tickets for a one-of-a-kind performance by Mr. Tight Jeans himself, Dwight Yoakam. His concert is Aug. 6.
